Is There Value in Your Circle?
Today, I spent some quality time with one of my dearest friends and our conversation was centered around God, how we desire to improve in our weaknesses, how we desire to grow closer to God, and how we desire to be used by God. The conversation in and of itself was fulfilling, but God revealed something even greater to me. God showed me through this encounter the importance of surrounding myself with people who have my best interest, who challenge me to grow, who hold me accountable, who support me, and who push me to reach my goals and aspirations.
Therefore, I pose the question, “What type of people do you choose to surround yourself with?” Are the people you call your friends adding to you or subtracting from you? After hanging out with these people do you feel drained or refreshed? Do you all spend your time gossiping about others or praying for other people? Are these people dream killers or do they support you and push you to reach your goals? Do these people challenge you to grow or support your bad habits?
After reflecting on the questions above, I ask you to take the time over the next few days to evaluate the people you are closest to. If it seems that they are doing you more harm than good and not adding value to your life, I challenge you to make the necessary changes regarding those relationships.
Moving forward, however, I challenge you to seek God before developing relationships with people; because a relationship is not meant to develop from every person we come in contact with. I strongly believe that God has a purpose for each of our lives and that He desires to use us in some capacity. I also believe that the enemy is aware of the plans that God has for us and comes to steal, kill, and destroy. As a result, he often times sends people into our lives to distract us and ultimately deter us from walking into our destiny. So I leave you with this thought: Are your relationships in the way or on the way to your destiny?
Blessings,
Imanne
